Vizcaino Serra Oak

Completed 2015

A limb from the famous oak tree under which Serra celebrated his first Mass in Monterey in June 1770  is the only remnant the Mission has on display from the famous fallen tree. On display in museum, it was deteriorating due to an insect infestation. Abatement measures were taken to eliminate the pests and stabilize the limb's physical structure to prevent further deterioration of this irreplaceable artifact.
