The Harry Downie Society was created to honor those who have included the Carmel Mission Foundation in their trusts, wills, or estate plans. Members of this special group share the common bond of philanthropy and vision to restore and preserve the historic structures, artifacts, and grounds throughout the 22-acre property of the Carmel Mission. We are grateful for their foresight, dedication, and philanthropic spirit. Planned giving does not require a large income or vast estate, but only a thoughtful intention to make a difference in our community. Members of the Harry Downie Society recognize the importance of making a future gift through the Foundation, and with their leadership, encourage others to do so as well. Their planning today will benefit our community for generations to come. Through this society the names and spirit of our supporters will be forever honored on the walls of the Serra Memorial.

We invite you to join other compassionate philanthropists who share your passion.

Downie Society members enjoy the company of others who care about leaving a legacy to protect and preserve the history of the Carmel Mission, Carmel-by-the-Sea, and its role in founding the 31st state, California. Each year, the Downie Society holds an annual luncheon to honor members and provide them with an opportunity to see how this society is improving their community through the Foundation’s restoration and preservation efforts. Members are also invited to other events throughout the year, including exclusive VIP receptions, member mixers, and our annual fundraiser.

Society members can remain anonymous in their philanthropy. However, we encourage those who have made a commitment as a Harry Downie Society member to share their name as they are an inspiration to others to look toward the future and learn how they too can have an enduring impact on this National Historic Landmark

Joining the Harry Downie Society can be as simple as contacting the Carmel Mission Foundation of your intention to make an estate gift. Just download and return the form linked below
