Past Preservation & Conservation

Since 2008 the Carmel Mission Foundation has worked together with the museum Docents and administration in identifying artifacts in need of preservation throughout the Carmel Mission Property.  The Carmel Mission houses thousands of artifacts, some which pre-date the 1771 founding of Carmel Mission, that are in dire need of preservation including literary books, native artifacts, historic tools, furniture, sculptures, silver, vestments, and artwork, including the largest collection of Spanish-Colonial paintings in California and New Spain.

In addition to funding capital restorations, the Foundation also focuses on small preservation projects to properly preserve mission artifacts and museum exhibits. Here are some of the artifact conservation projects the foundation and museum administration have completed together.
