In addition to the restoration and preservation of structures and artifacts throughout the historic Carmel Mission property, the Carmel Mission Foundation strives to preserve the Mission's 250+ year history by researching and sharing the Mission's story as it endured not only during the Mission-era, but through the formation of our 31st state, and as the Monterey Peninsula developed around it. The Foundation's Community Programs offer educational and historical presentations and speaker engagements, provide leadership and research opportunities for local youth, and present art and cultural exhibits that tie into the Mission's past and highlight Carmel Mission's transformation through sketches and photographs dating back to 1789.

Carmel Mission Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. It is legally and organizationally separate and distinct from Carmel Mission Basilica and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Monterey. Carmel Mission Foundation is not a Catholic entity and has no authority over the Mission's operations, clergy, liturgy, or property. Camel Mission Foundation's sole purpose is to raise funds in support of the restoration, preservation and conservation of Carmel Mission Basilica.
