THE JACAL: THE SITE OF THE SECOND CHURCH

In August 1771, Father Junípero Serra found the fertile land he searched for, away from the presidio activities. “The banks of Carmel River and in view of the sea… a truly delightful spot, which, thanks to its plentiful supply of both land and water, gives promise of abundant harvest,” Fr. Serra described in his writings.
